An arbor, also called barrel arbor, is the axle in the heart of the watch power source. The mainspring, which lies in a cylindrical box called the barrel, is coiled around the arbor. The barrel revolves on top of the arbor. By turning the arbor, the mainspring winds up and thus stores energy to keep the watch going.
